Mental Time Out Must-Haves

You're So Write makes recommendations for entertainment

Hey, all you cool cats and kittens! Homelife got you down? A little bored because you’re stuck inside, unsure of what to do with your time? Don't worry, I gotchu. 😉

I've compiled a list of tv, podcasts and book recommendations to help keep you occupied during these wild times 🐅. You're going to want to watch, listen or read all of these right meow!.... ok, ok I won't make that joke again. 😅

I have one (or five) for every mood I’m feeling….

Television:

Love Island UK ~ YOU GUYS. I cannot stress how amazing this show is. It's on Hulu! Think 'The Bachelor' Goes to Summer Camp ~ British Edition. Personally, this is the order I'd watch them in: Season 3, 5, 6, 4 2 (no need to watch Season 1).

Tiger King ~ If you don't know who Carole Baskin and Joe Exotic are, go to Netflix asap and become the cool cats I know you can be!

The Circle ~ Game show that is "Big Brother" meets "Catfish"; the twist being that the contestants never meet each other during the competition.

Umbrella Academy ~ 7 kids (inexplicably born) with unique powers, are adopted by a billionaire who trains them to save the world. I was pleasantly surprised by how interesting this show was and cannot wait for the return of the next season.

Locke & Key ~ I was a bit skeptical about this show at first, then those cliff hangers at the end of each episode really got me!! After their farther's murder, three siblings and their mother move into a house filled with "reality-bending keys" that create an unexpected turn of events.

Parasite ~ This is actually a movie, found on Hulu. WOW, was it incredible. I had a friend who recommended it to me, and upon watching it I immediately understood why. It was both funny and intriguing, keeping you on the edge of your couch (at least it did for me) throughout the entire movie. There's twist and turns I did NOT see coming. A film about greed and class discrimination, this is a MUST WATCH....like now. I must disclose that there are subtitles for this movie, but I promise you it's worth it.

Podcasts:

Committed ~ Real people. Real commitment. What happens after “I do.”

I Weigh with Jameela Jamil ~ This is a new treat for us! Jameela (actress from the Good Place and activist) just recently launched this podcast and I LOVE IT! I Weigh is about understanding and owning shame, loving yourself and growth. As she says, it's a "journey on progress, not perfection."

The Way I heard It with Mike Rowe ~ Short stories of people from pop culture to politics that Mike Rowe tells and hides the identity of the person until the very end.

The Joe Rogan Experience ~ Covering a variety of topics with an array of guests. Joe discusses anything from comedy, politics, theories....to really anything that pops into his head.

The Goal Digger Podcast ~ How do I build my dream job and grow my passions into profits?

Books: Both mine and my main squeeze, Pearson's, recs.

The Under Suspicion Series by Mary Higgins Clark, Alafair Burke. This is one of my favorite series so far. A producer of a true-crime TV show provides a new perspective on high-profile cold cases by looking at those closest to the crimes–witnesses, suspects, sometimes even victims. The best part, there are 6 books total in this series.

The Broken Earth Trilogy by N. K. Jemisin. Pearson loves this series; he's reading them all for the umpteenth time. Set in the far future - Earth has "apocalyptic events that last for generations, that reshape the world and its inhabitants."

The Wife Between Us + Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks, Sarah Pekkanen. What I love about their books, is that there are so many twists and turns that keep you on your toes. Page turn after page turn, you're yearning for more.

The Expanse Series by James S. A. Corey. Another significant amount of books in this series (8). Set in the future, humanity has colonized in the Solar System. Tensions begin to rise between Earth's United Nations, Mars and other planets.

Other Favorite Authors:

Crime / Mystery: Michael Robotham, Amanda Kyle Williams and Lisa Gardener.

Sci-Fi: Frank Herbert and Isaac Asimov

Fantasy: Roger Zelazny

These are just some of my favorite shows, podcasts and books to occupy yourself with daily. I highly recommend them all!! I know right now is tough, but it’s safe to say that we are living in a great time where we no longer have to rely on just radio stations or the bustling noise of the city to keep our minds occupied due to the sheer volume of quality content out there nowadays.

I’d love to hear some of your favorites; always a treat finding new mini obsessions. Feel free to drop me some suggestions in my comment section!!
